Vila Baleira, Madeira.

On the island of Porto Santo, there is another important city of Madeira: Vila Baleira.

It is a great destination for those who love the beach, with its crystal-clear water of different shades of blue and the fine sand.

It is an actual tropical paradise, riddled with bars and restaurants, and it is never too crowded.

You’ll have the chance to sip a cocktail while resting under a thatched parasol, and taste some delicious local dishes like clams with garlic and coriander, rice with saffron and chicken or salted codfish of Porto.

Of course, there are other attractions in the city center for those who don’t won’t to renounce a cultural visit, like the wonderful Museum of Christopher Columbus.

A very interesting activity you can practice in Vila Baleira is diving, since there is a center where beginners and experts can plan their adventures. You will get to enjoy wonderful ocean floors, with colorful and tropical fishes like moray, barracuda, triggerfish and many more. Last but not least, you fill also find a sunken cargo vessel.

Of course, in Vila Baleira you can also get some relaxing time at the beach, sipping a delicious cocktail. Then, you can enjoy a walk in this charming town and stop to try some local food in one of the many restaurants.

Amongst the best traditional dishes there is bolo do caco, a kind of bread made with wheat flour and potatoes. It can be tasted with a plate of Espada (swordfish), bacalhau (codfish) or fish fry. For dessert you totally have to try a pudding with marracuja cream, which is made with passion flower, and some fresh tropical fruits like papaya, mango and pineapple.
