To the discovery of Porto Santo.
Porto Santo is a Portuguese island in the Atlantic Ocean, part of the archipelago of Madeira. It is a very popular destination among those who love to spend their holidays at the beach.
The sea here is pretty awesome and the temperatures are mild at any time of the year.
Porto Santo is located 30 miles away from the island of Madeira but has its own airport, so that it can be easily reached by plane.
Its largest and most important city is Vila Baleira, situated in the southern part of the island, but tourists also like to reach other areas in order to find peaceful beaches and spend some relaxing moments in the nature.
The weather in Porto Santo.
The climate of Porto Santo is subtropical-oceanic, which means mild winters and warm summers.Usually the temperature ranges between 17 and 19 degrees in winter, and from 20 to 25 in summer.
That is why this beautiful Portuguese destination is always that popular: it is the perfect place for those who want to get away from a very hot summer or a cold winter.
Rains are not a problem either, since they’re not very abundant, especially in summer when they’re almost absent.
Beaches in Porto Santo.
In Porto Santo there’s a plenty of wonderful beaches where you can spend your days enjoying the sun and the ocean water.
Not far from Vila Baleira there’s Praia of Porto Santo, the most popular beach of the island. It is very long and mostly free so, during the low season, it is never too crowded. The sand here is soft and clean, while the water is always warm and crystal clear.
Another wonderful beach is Zimbralinho, situated on the south-western coast of the island. It is a little bay not easy to reach, but it is totally worth it. During the sunset the view is just magical and you can jump off high cliffs and swim in peace, far away from the frenzy of reality.
If you like the views, there is the beautiful beach of Ponta da Calheta, right on the tip of Porto Santo, or Ponta do Passo, on the south-eastern coast.
Vila Baleira.
As we said earlier, Vila Baleira is the main city of Porto Santo. It is really popular amongst history lovers, since Christopher Columbus lived here at a certain point of his life.
His house can be visited and it is now a very interesting museum, where you can discover interesting details about the life and the journeys of the famous Italian explorer.
Only one mile away from Vila Baleira, you can find the awesome Pico de Ana Ferreira, with a 283 meters-high peak.
It is an amazing lava rock formation characterized by long pentagonal cliffs. Plus, from its highest point you can enjoy a wonderful view of the sea and the amazing natural area surrounding the hill.
